....and you know what that means! Holiday cards and holiday photos to put in those cards. Here's a few tips and tricks to help de-stress your life a little this fall.
First of all you want to start pinning down a date now. The best time of year is October in Texas. The leaves are changing, the sunsets are pretty and you can get away with wearing cozy clothes without sweating.
Alright, so now what are you going to wear?
When planning your outfits try to think complimenting, not all identical. If you are planning to use an outdoor location try to steer clear of bright or neon colors. And don't forget accessories! Scarves, watches, jewelry, belts, ties, suspenders, etc. If you want to bring several options feel free and we can sort it out on location as we go. You might also want to bring extra hair ties, brushes, hairspray, makeup, wet wipes, etc for touch ups or style changes.
So now how do you convince your family to get
along for an entire hour for photos?
Make it fun! So often photo shoots are thought
of as horrible experiences. The whole family
should go into it with one goal : Have Fun. If you
are having fun, I'm going to get on film and
it's going to show through on your images.
Try asking your kiddos what they would like
to be doing in the photos. Play sword fighting?
Dancing? Food fight? Water Balloon war?
Or maybe they want to be transformed in a
mermaid or a superhero!! Even if it just
comes down to letting them wear their
favorite ninja shirt -- Just let me know and
we will find a way to make it happen. THOSE
are the photos I live for. I want to capture them
in their element truly having a good time.
What if your kid has a breakdown?
Not a problem. Happens all the time and trust me, your kid is NOT the worst. Try to keep it from becoming a negative situation though. Often if we just move on without them, they lose steam and want to be part of the fun again. And if no amount of bribes or peer pressure can convince your cutie to play along, just keep calm and go with it. Sometimes the cranky faces turn out better than a forced smile anyways.
Once you get on location and it's go time just try to remember it's all about having fun. Tickle your kids, chase them around! Don't always be worried about looking at the camera. The in between shots are just as special as the posed ones. Just get your hair out of your face and let me worry about the rest.
There is so much to do and see and photograph. How will we ever manage to capture it all?
