Our stay at the Baker Hotel

Well it took five years and several tries, but I finally made it into the famous Baker Hotel. This was probably my last chance to take pictures of the old gal before her restoration begins. I got word of my permission a few months ago and immediately started planning an epic photo shoot. It wasn't too hard to find willing participants. The Baker has a way of catching your attention. It helps that the fourteen stories reach far above anything else in the small town of Mineral Wells. You can see her long before you even cross the city line. When planning any shoot I am picky with who I work with, but this was far beyond any normal shoot. Armed with four beautiful models, and six crew members we stormed the fortress in broad daylight (with the help of the key of course).
We were lucky enough to not only have the run of the place for the day, but we had tour guides. Tony and Larry were a vault of knowledge about the history surrounding this once renowned resort. It was wonderful to be in such a large group of people who share such excitement about the same place. Like kids in a candy store, we were overwhelmed by the sheer size once we entered. We spent the day taking photos and videos of everything we saw, yet even after spending six hours inside, we had barely scratched the surface. A million and one thanks to both Larry and Tony for not only allowing us to put this project in motion, but for all your help all day long!
With the restoration project already in progress, I'm hoping it won't be too far in the future before the Baker Hotel is alive and thriving again.

Almost everything remains frozen in time. From the dry rotted curtains and carpets, to the tiles on the walls. Stepping into the Baker is the closest thing to time travel I've ever experienced.

And a million thanks to the entire crew for all your help and energy throughout the day. It was like a dream.
